Baking and Serving Pieces (Including Open Casseroles) Casseroles, Bean Pots, Soup Tureens, Other Lidded Pieces Mamarrachos (Masks and Figures) Table Items (French Butter Bells, Margarine Tub Holders, Gravy Boats, etc.)

Butter Bells, sometimes called French Butter Keepers, keep butter soft and ready to spread. Remove the lid and place it upside down on your table for use.
Fill the bowl with water, and then fill the lid with slightly softened butter. When you place the butter in the water-filled bowl, it creates an air seal that allows the butter to sit on your table, soft and ready for spreading, for days without spoiling or becoming too soft.. When you want to have the butter available, just flip the lid over and stand the bell upside down – butter ready to go. Adapted from an old French tradition, apparently started in Normandy or Brittany in the nineteenth century |

Margarine holders fit a one-pound margarine tub (which you can see in the "open" picture on the left). Much nicer than putting that ugly tub on the table. Then cover it to put it back in the refrigerator.
